2. Storage Before Installation

2.1 Store your door in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, damp, or heat sources.

2.2 Do not store your door in newly plastered or recently renovated spaces. Fresh plaster can significantly raise humidity, which may damage the timber. Allow at least six weeks for any new plaster to fully dry before introducing the door.

2.3 We cannot accept liability for damage caused by improper storage.

3. Installation

3.1 Our doors are supplied on a supply-only basis and must be installed by a qualified tradesperson. Correct installation is essential to ensure the door performs as designed and maintains its warranty.

3.2 We’re happy to provide guidance on what to look for in a suitable professional. Most customers use a trusted local carpenter, joiner, or builder experienced in fitting traditional timber doors.

3.3 Morton Doors supplies doors on a supply-only basis and does not take responsibility for ensuring compliance with Building Regulations. For like-for-like replacements in an existing opening, approval is generally not required. If the installation involves a new opening, changes to the size or structure, or significantly affects security or insulation, it is the responsibility of the customer and/or their chosen installer to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. Morton Doors accepts no liability for any costs, loss, or remedial work arising from non-compliance with Building Regulations following installation by a third party.

3.4 Morton Doors is not responsible for any damage to the door or frame caused during or after installation by a third-party installer. It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that a qualified professional handles the installation carefully. Any such damage is not covered under the Morton Doors guarantee.

3.5 Morton Doors is not responsible for any damage to surrounding property, fixtures, or fittings that occurs during or after installation by a third-party installer. Customers should ensure that their installer carries appropriate insurance and takes all necessary precautions to protect the property during fitting.

4. Finishing & Protecting Your Door

4.1 Our doors are supplied unfinished. You must finish your door with a high-quality, weather-resistant oil based paint or stain, ideally before installation and no later than 3 days after installation.

Please Note:

Our doors are delivered primed with a professional, industrial-grade primer (nitrocellulose-based) that is generally compatible with most paint systems. However, some more specialist products are designed to work specifically with their own Exterior Wood Primer & Undercoat.

  • Wax, oil, or clear varnish are not considered suitable finishes for external use.We cannot guarantee doors finished using these methods. Both faces of the door

4.2 Apply at least three coats of paint or stain to:

  • Both faces of the door
  • All for edges (top, bottom, and sides).
  • Any cutouts for hinges, locks, and letterbox.

4.3 We strongly advise against dark finishes. Dark colours absorb heat from sunlight, which can cause excessive timber movement (cracking, warping, twisting). Damage resulting from dark paint finishes is not covered under our guarantee.

4.4 After finishing the door, apply a bead of clear silicone around all external glazing apertures and installed weatherbars to prevent water ingress.

4.5 If a weather bar is being installed, apply a bead of clear silicone around all edges to prevent water ingress.

4.6 Wood is a natural product. Small cracks, splits, or minor movements are normal and part of its natural beauty.Promptly address any signs of wear by filling and refinishing affected areas.

4.7 Regular maintenance is essential to keep your door looking great and functioning well. At least once a year, lightly sand and reapply a coat of finishing treatment to protect the timber.

4.8 We cannot accept liability for damage caused by improper finishing or exposure to extreme conditions. Failure to follow our finishing and maintenance instructions may void the Morton Doors guarantee.
